Hand saws

Hand saws are good for cutting blanks for small carved figures. A hacksaw is not, of course, a chisel, but it can be used to cut off a lot of excess wood and thus make carving much easier. There is a wide range of hacksaws available. Use a large, fine-toothed hacksaw to cut the profile piece from the bar stock: it is easy to use it to make auxiliary notches on the contour of the shape for subsequent cutting of the wood between the notches. A profile piece can also be sawn from a block of wood using a beam or cupped saw. Thanks to their narrow blade, they can make radius cuts, and also saw out small pieces of wood during the carving process. Bow and cupped saws are not as powerful as larger saws, but they are very useful tools.
